About our work
What does Stratum Gemological do?
We provide geological research, gemstone sourcing and brokerage advisory, asset assessment and spectroscopy coordination, and expedition safety advice. Our clients include luxury jewelers, investment teams, and mining organizations.
Do you carry out field expeditions?
We work in an advisory capacity. Our support can cover planning, risk assessment, communication arrangements, and readiness reviews. Field operations and on-site supervision remain with the appointed operators.
Gemstones & assessment
How does a gemstone assessment begin?
We start by understanding the specimen, your question, and any existing reports. The assignment scope then identifies the appropriate specialist examination, laboratory work, and reporting requirements.
What can spectroscopy contribute?
Methods such as FTIR, Raman, and UV-Vis-NIR spectroscopy can support identification and investigation of treatments or other characteristics. The appropriate method and interpretation depend on the specimen and the available reference information.
How do you approach provenance and sourcing?
We review the available supplier information, laboratory reports, and chain-of-custody documents against the sourcing brief. We highlight gaps that need further investigation. For relevant rough-diamond transactions, applicable Kimberley Process documentation forms part of the review.
